Unity Presbyterian Church Cambridge Ohio

    Unity Presbyterian Church  is the result of a merger between two Presbyterian congregations: 2nd Presbyterian and Westminster Presbyterian.

    Westminster Presbyterian Church was organized in 1827, when an attorney by the name of Matthew Gaston gave the lot where the present church stands to the Presbyterians who were trying to organize a church in Cambridge. It was not until 1832; however, that the lot was cleared and a small wooden building was erected on the present site of Unity Presbyterian Church. In 1855 plans for a new brick building were prepared and a new structure was completed in 1857 at  cost of $4,029.22. A new replacement building was completed in 1893 which served the congregation for almost 20 years. Finally in January 1915 a newly remodeled church and chapel were dedicated, with this third church building on the site, becoming our current church. In 1955 the old chapel was raised and a new chapel, education building and fellowship facilities were added.

    Second Presbyterian Church was organized  on May 27, 1897. A brick and stone church was built on West 8th Strret in 1900. In 1930, the building was destroyed by fire, but was rebuilt and dedicated in 1931

    These two churches, with proud histories, decided to pool their talents as they moved together into a new era of ministry in 1999. Unity is composed of people of diverse talents, skills, and abilities, that we seek to blend. As part of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., we continue to ask what it means to bear Christian witness. This church supports a wide ranging array of ministries beyond its walls, and its members are deeply involved in ministering through the Salvation Army, Share and Care, food pantries, food kitchens, the local hospital and other organizations. Our deacons minister to members in need. We have older members and younger ones. Some of our members serve as advisors to Youth Groups and children's Jr. Youth Club. Three Women's Circles offer fellowship in the morning, afternoon or evening.We host the Community Lenten Lunch series, and the Martin Luther King Jr. service and luncheon. We want others to feel welcome here.
